Italy signs deal for prompt business in Iran
2016/Jan/21

Italian group Pessina Costruzioni signed an initial agreement to build five hospitals in Iran as companies scramble to steal a lead on rivals amid renewed trade heating up. Guido Stefanelli, the CEO of the Milan-based company, signed an MoU with Iran”s Ministry of Health in Tehran on Tuesday where three of the 1,000-bed hospitals will be built. Two 500-bed units will be constructed in Iran”s northern city of Rasht and Nayshabur in the country”s northeast, the Italian news agency AGI reported. Pessina Costruzioni, Italy”s leader in the construction and management of hospitals, will be one of the first foreign firms to return to Iran after the lifting of sanctions and reopening of financial exchanges. Italy was one of Iran”s leading economic and trade partners before sanctions when annual exchanges amounted to 7 billion euros compared with $1.6 billion euros now. Italian Deputy Economic Development Minister Carlo Calenda led a large trade delegation to Tehran in November, representing 178 companies, 20 business associations and 12 banking groups. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is about to visit Italy and France from January 25 to 27 after the trip originally scheduled for mid-November was postponed due to the Paris attacks. South Korea”s Eximbank has already signed an MoU with an Iranian entity to build 10 hospitals and pharmaceutical centers in the country. Italy”s maritime classification society RINA, meanwhile, said it had signed an agreement to provide services to Iranian shipping firms. Ships need verification from classification companies to call at international ports. It is also key to securing insurance and indemnity cover for ships and reconnecting to the international banking system. General manager of RINA”s marine division Paolo Moretti told Reuters the Genoa-based group expected to start verifying safety and environmental standards for Iranian ships including oil tankers in a matter of weeks. RINA signed an agreement this week with Iran”s Asia Classification Society and is also looking to provide classification cover for Iran”s top tanker operator NITC as well as its leading container and dry cargo shipping group IRISL. "RINA Iran will focus not only on the marine side, but on oil and gas, energy, power generation, infrastructure and business assurance," he said. The company expects to have its Iranian operation up and running by the end of the month. RINA is making inroads into the Iranian market for the first time but it is building relationships with Iranian shipping companies "pretty quickly", Moretti said. "RINA was not one of the companies who left the country. We are a new beginner," he added. Maritime classification societies left Iran after sanctions were imposed in 2012. With the sanctions officially lifted on Saturday, those companies are jockeying for position for a return to the country of enormous opportunities. Britain”s Lloyd”s Register said on Monday it was working on resuming services, while Norwegian-headquartered DNV GL said it was considering "re-entering the Iranian market". France”s Bureau Veritas said it planned to give Iranian ship owners "full support to assist their re-entry into global service". Zurich Insurance said it would look into insurance cover for corporate customers doing business with Iran.

Iran, Slovakia ink 2 letters of intent, 1 MOU on economic co-op
2016/Jan/21

TEHRAN– Iran and Slovakia signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint investment workforce, together with two letters of intent on double taxation avoidance and supporting mutual investment between the two countries.
The agreements were inked in Tehran on Tuesday during a meeting between Iranian Finance and Economic Affairs Minister Ali Tayyebnia and Slovak Finance Minister Peter Kazimir, Mehr news agency reported on Wednesday.
Tayyebnia said, “Agreements being signed between Iran and Slovakia right after lifting of sanctions against the Islamic Republic indicates the two sides” firm intentions to expand economic ties as immediately as possible.”
Increased relations between the two sides, he said, would provide Slovakia with a range of new business opportunities, getting into the Iranian market of 400 million people and also the neighboring markets.
Kazimir, for his part, said being the first country to sign economic agreements with Iran, post sanctions, is a privilege, noting that his country is ready to cooperate with Iran in different sectors, including energy and car manufacturing.
On January 17, Kazimir visited Mashhad, the capital city of Iran”s northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi, where he opened a Slovak-Iranian business forum with Khorasan Razavi Governor General Alireza Rashidian.
More than 200 companies from Khorasan Razavi province and 39 entrepreneurial entities from Slovakia active in the fields of power engineering, water management, financing, banking and infrastructure took part in the forum.
Referring to his trade delegation, Kazimir said, “The focus of this entrepreneurial mission is on power engineering, including renewable resources, machinery, and water management as well as information and communication technologies.”

Iran, Russia firms sign deal to build oil rigs
2016/Jan/20

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian shipbuilder ISOICO said it has signed an agreement with Russian shipyard Krasnye Barrikady (Red Barricades) for oil rig construction and technology transfer. ISOICO Managing Director Hamid Rezaian said the agreement will allow his company to take advantage of the Russian firm”s facilities to produce certain equipment. “We are ready to provide ISOICO with the necessary equipment thanks to financial and insurance support of the Russian government,” Red Barricades CEO Alexander Ilyichev said. The deal was signed earlier this month in Tehran where representatives of 80 leading Russian companies showcased their products in the biggest foreign display of the kind ever held in Iran. Under the agreement, the two sides will jointly build rigs for exploration and production of hydrocarbons in the Persian Gulf waters. “The construction cycle is planned not for one year, but for decades," Ilyichev has told Russian media. Ilyichev has said Iran was also interested in ordering new oil tankers for operation in the Caspian Sea. Last month, Rezaian said his company was looking to the lifting of sanctions to unveil a series of grand projects in partnership with major world shipbuilders. Talks have been held with South Korean, Italian, Chinese, German and Turkmen companies to implement joint schemes. Preliminary agreements have been reached with South Korea”s Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. and an MoU has been signed with Nordic Yards Wismar which is Germany”s biggest shipbuilder, Rezaian said. Iran has a sprawling shipbuilding industry, chiefly devoted to constructing oil tankers and container ships as well as offshore structures. The country owns the world”s largest fleet of oil supertankers consisting of 42 VLCCs, each able to carry 2 million barrels of oil. Iran also held a conference in Tehran last month to lay out 50 oil and gas projects worth $30 billion for development through foreign investment. The projects include a combination of brown and green fields as well as exploration blocks up for development. Iran plans to boost oil production to 5.7 million barrels a day and gas output to 1.4 billion cubic meters a day by 2021.
